Flu: Vaccine, hand washing urged continued from Page 1 CUDAHY — On Jan. 2, Cudahy became the fourth city in Wisconsin to pass an ordinance against conversion therapy, which is aimed at changing one's sexual orientation or gender identity. Led by City Council member Justin Moralez, the ordinance was approved 4-1, joining Milwaukee, Madison and Eau Claire with such a law. The ordinance prohibits any practice or treatment of persons under the age of 18 that seeks to change a person's sexual ori- entation or gender identity, or behaviors or expression related to a person's orienta- tion or gender identity. The practice of con- version therapy has been discredited by numerous health organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association, the American Counseling Association, the American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Fair Wisconsin, a LGBTQ civil rights advocacy group, applauded Moralez, the City Council and the city's Board of Health. "These local efforts are critical stepping stones to protect more people than before and to build broad public support for a statewide law," said Megin McDonell, exec- utive director of Fair Wisconsin. In 2014, Cudahy unanimously passed a local nondiscrimination ordinance to pro- hibit discrimination in housing, employ- ment and public accommodations on the basis of gender identity and expression, which was also led by Moralez.
