Also announced were the recipi- ents of the MBA's 2018 Builder of the Year, Associate of the Year, and Rookie of the Year awards. "I am honored to be 2019 president of the Metropolitan Builders Association," Doer- ing said. "I will face the coming year with commitment, energy and enthusiasm for the residential building industry and sup- port the dedicated members of the MBA." Doering is now on the MBA's Executive Committee, the MBA board of directors, and the MBA Developing & Government Affairs Council. In addition, the following have been named MBA officers: ■ President-elect: Shelly Basso, Aspen Homes, Inc. ■ Treasurer: Bill Zach, Zach Building Co. ■ Secretary: Mike Bauman, Joseph Dou- glas Homes ■ Past president: Jonathan Synovic, Source 1 Project Solutions, Inc. ■ Vice president associate: Julie Metzger, Villani Landshapers Inc. ■ Vice chair associate: Dave Mihalovich, Digitek ■ Secretary-Treasurer Associate: Patrick Aldape, Midwest Tops Recipients of the MBA's 2018 awards were also announced. These announcements were made at the MBA's annual installation Dinner, held at The Legend at Brandybrook in Wales on Nov. 30. Concerned about your feathered friends in your yard or you have a big fan of birds on your Christmas list? You can make your own birdseed orna- ments for the holidays. What you need: ■ cookie sheet ■ wax paper ■ mixing bowl ■ 3/4 cup flour ■ 1/2 cup water ■ 3 tablespoons corn syrup ■ 4 cups birdseed ■ cookie cutters ■ cooking spray ■ straws ■ twine ■ scissors What to do: 1. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. 2. Add flour, water, and corn syrup togeth- er in a mixing bowl. Make sure it's well combined. 3. Once the liquid mixture is smooth and creamy, slowly add the birdseed. Mix to combine. 4. Pour the mixture onto the cookie sheet. Using your hands, press the mixture until it's flat and even. The birdseed dough should be roughly 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch thick. 5. Coat the edges of your cookie cutters with cooking spray. Then, press the cookie cutters into the birdseed mixture. 6. Next, poke a hole (for hanging) through each ornament with a straw. Allow the bird- seed to rest in the cookie cutters for 8 hours. 7. Once set, remove your birdseed orna- ments from the cookie cutters. 8. Loop a piece of twine through each ornament. Then, head outside and hang them up on the nearest tree.
