It was quite a place to go to and I really enjoyed that visit and trip to California. ******* I loved watching Barry Alvarez coach again at Wisconsin and the Badgers almost pulled the upset of Stanford. Barry is a graduate of the University of Nebraska– Lincoln, where he played linebacker from 1966 to 1968 under Bob Devaney, who became one of his major coaching influences along with Hayden Fry and Lou Holtz. Alvarez intercepted a pass in a game played between Nebraska and the Badgers in Madison. Alvarez later became a head coach at Lexington High School in Lexington, Nebraska, and then Mason City High School in Mason City, Iowa where the Mohawks won the 1978 class 4A state title before becoming an assistant coach at University of Iowa and then at the University of Notre Dame. He then went on to Wisconsin. I was sports editor in Lexington in 1974 and 1975 while Barry was there, I left in 1977. He was a good coach and a good person and I have enjoyed watching his career and how well he has done. I was cheering hard for Wisconsin last week. It was good to see him coach one last time. ******** "He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach the ends of the earth. And he will be their peace."—Micah 5:4-5. Dear Jesus, prevent me from looking to earthly avenues of peace and thinking they will last. Instead, lead me to trust in you, so that I might find true peace that lasts. A last second rebound and put back shot by Chris Downey gave the Chargers a thrilling 52-50 victory at Mitchell High School last Saturday night. "The kids did a very good job. It was the first backto-back wins since 2009. Chris Downey hit that last second shot. We drew up a play and Shaine Eck got the screen from Chris and took a shot that missed, Downey rebounded and made the final shot of the game. It was an exciting win for our team," said Coach Mokris. We struggled a little bit defensively, but we did a nice job in the fourth quarter and shot them down a lot in the final quarter. We had some foul trouble again, but those big guys all stepped up in the final quarter. We made some free throws. Although we struggled at times from the free throw line in that last quarter.
