Everyone welcome to our services. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister Winslow U.M. Church Sunday morning worship at 10:15. We will save a pew for you. A favorite recipe for 2013 Take a cup of kindness, mix it well with love, add a lot of patience and faith in God above. Sprinkle very generously with joy and thanks and cheer—And you'll have lots of angel food to feast on all the year. Happy 2013. Carl Meeks, Lay Minister Devara Krause, Reporter Pleasant Grove G.B. Church Spraggins Sunday school 9:30, Kathy Miller, superintendent; Michael Miller, morning speaker 10:30. Everyone welcome. Sunday school lesson for Jan. 13, 2013—Jesus' Humility and Exaltation. Last week's Trivia question: Name the men that Paul entrusted to help him continue to spread the message during his imprisonment. Answer: Timetheous (Timothy) and Epaphroditus—Philippians 2:19-30. Next week's question: Jesus' death on the cross is the ultimate expression of what? Mini message: Joy in serving It's a shame that so many people, including some Christians, live only to make a good impression on others. Or to toot their own horn as we say. Therefore, Paul instructs us in the book of Philippians on how to become spiritually united with Christ enabling us to demonstrate Christ's example of putting others first. Selfishness endangers our relationship with God, but genuine humility helps us build it. We are to joyfully lay aside our selfishness and treat others with courtesy and kindness. Considering others interests and problems are just as important as ours. This is just one example of serving joyfully. Until next week—Make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Fred Faith, Deacon Kathy Miller, Reporter Taken in part from The Word for you today. See you in church next Sunday. Mel Camp, Pastor Mt. Pisgah G.B. Church "Create in me a pure heart, God, and make my spirit right again" (Psalm 51:10). We are thirsty. Not thirsty for fame, possessions, passion, or romance. We've drunk from the pools. They are salt water in the dessert. They don't quench, they kill. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness". Righteousness—That's it. That's what we are thirsty for. We're thirsty for a clean conscience. We crave a clean heart. We yearn for a fresh start. We pray for a hand that will enter the dark cavern of our world and do for us the one thing we can't do for ourselves—make us right again. Intercessory prayer each Sunday morning at 8:30; morning worship at 10:15; Sunday school for children and youth during morning worship service; Sunday night; Celebrate Recovery at 6; Celebration Station Ministry for ages four including, fifth grade and youth meeting also at 6 p.m. We have a lot going on and at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your presence will be greatly appreciated and you will leave being filled with the Spirit. Josh Luker, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter Petersburg Holiness Church 5317 N. We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter Religious viewpoint A clear conscience By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam With the knowledge of good and evil man came into the possession of conscience. A sense of blameworthiness smote him when he committed, or even contemplated committing, evil. This has been so ever since. The Bible tells us that even the most ungodly and benighted heathen "show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the meanwhile accusing or else excusing one another" (Romans 2:15). It is true that man's conscience can be violated so often that it becomes calloused or, as St. Paul puts it: "seared with a hot iron" (I Timothy 4:2), but events or incidents can take place which suddenly awaken the conscience and make it sensitive again. Many a person has indulged in "the pleasures of sin" more and more freely until, suddenly, his sin has found him out and his conscience has caught up with him to condemn him day and night and make life itself unbearable. The Bible teaches that all men outside of Christ are, to some degree, troubled by guilty consciences and certainly most are "through fear of death… all their lifetime subject to bondage" (Hebrews 2:15). But it also teaches that "Christ died for our sins" so that, our penalty having been paid, we might be delivered from a guilty conscience. The works and ceremonies of the Mosaic Law could never accomplish this, but sincere and intelligent believers in Christ, having been "once purged," have "no more conscience of sins" (Hebrews 9:14; 10:1,2). They are, to be sure, conscious of their sins, but they are no longer tortured by a forever-condemning conscience, for they know that the penalty for all their sins, from the cradle to the coffin, was fully met by Christ at Calvary. This is not to imply that even a sincere believer may not be troubled about offending the One who paid for his sins, but he knows that the judgment for these sins is past. Thus he earnestly seeks, like Paul, "to have always a conscience void of offence toward God and toward man" (Acts 24:16). Will God Judge America? My heart aches for America as we see our beloved nation drift farther from God. The results of the recent election show a definite move toward secularism and a drift away from biblical values and morality. In some states same-sex marriage was approved and marijuana was legalized. Whether it was apathy or indifference, millions of Christians stayed at home and did not vote to protect their families from all kinds of new evils. This begins my 37th year of writing the Religious Viewpoint newspaper column. I have written more than 1,800 columns and today it is published in about 100 newspapers in 21 states. From the beginning it has been opinions on my viewpoint regarding Christian values based on the biblical perspective. It often deals with religious news and trends in our society. In reviewing some of the columns from 30 or 35 years ago, I am amazed at the changing culture in America. In the past few years we have seen our families under attack and marriage threatened. Today 25 percent of Caucasian babies are born out of wedlock. In the Hispanic community 50 percent and approximately 75 percent of African-American babies are illegitimate. Cohabitation is accepted by many and perverted forms of sex and portrayed on the Internet and TV. Our government has become corrupt, our secular colleges are anti-Christian and many churches have driftContinued on page 4 River Of Life Fellowship 342 E. CR 300 N.
