One postcard came to Sweets Col- umn, Winslow, Ind 47598. Postcard # 649 has a picture of a brown dog, and he is a celebrity on T V as he says, "Rollin' that beautiful bean foot- age." An emblem of Bush's Best since 1908. Visitor Center Chesnut Hill, Ten- nessee. The back reads: Rex Carlisle and fam- ily went on vacation in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. They visited the Bush Bean Company. A.J. Bush started his gener- al store in 1897. IN 1904, Bush partnered with Stokely Brothers to open a small tomato cannery in Tennessee. In 1908, he bought everything out and opened Bush Brothers Company. The company has evolved to the Bush Brothers baked beans we eat today. Rex and Paula Car- lisle. A big thank you to all the Carlisle Family for postcard # 649 and the his- tory of Bush Brothers. Your tour of this company and all its surroundings must have been informational and we appre- ciate our trip with you also. The Patoka River is down to half filled or half empty, and the weather has been very humid until Wednesday where even the temp was in the 85 degree range. That night was cool in the low 60s, but the nice weather didn't last that long. On Thursday, the temperature rose and the air came on again. We have seen more of our daughter, Laura, this past week, even if we only see her for an hour is what makes me happy. She took us two stars out to eat in Jasper at a place I didn't know was there. The plates of food were so big that we had to take half of the meal home. It was very tasty. Wednesday was the best day of the summer, so far, and Norm and I took advan- tage of it by spending it on the road. We started first day by going to Petersburg to the bank then to get something for breakfast. We traveled south on the newly paved Hwy 57, and it doesn't have all of the potholes as we all remember. In Oakland City we stopped for gas, and then we were off again traveling west on Hwy 64 to Princeton to get some grocery items. We were almost stopped by two trains, but by the time we got to the tracks, the train had passed. The trip back to Winslow was really nice as the sweating we had done days before wasn't felt on this day. Later on, we traveled to Spurgeon and stopped along the way to visit a friend before coming home. Thursday was another good day, but it was a little hotter if you were not un- der a fan. At the Winslow Town Hall after paying our water bill, our town clerk Sta- cy Worthington said that they had got- ten some new maps in. One was an Indi- ana road map and the other was a Pike Co. map. Then she showed me the Pike County, Ind. postcard that you could pick up for free and either send to your friend, or Sweets Column would be glad to receive one, too. They have several pamphlets of Pike County and its busi- nesses. Stop in, check it out and get to know our clerk-treasurer Stacy Worth- ington, a really great person to know in Winslow. Not much more to ramble about, so as the lights begin to dim, please keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all the wonders in your area of this big world. As usual, always smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS Brian C. Gladish quitclaims to Amanda L. Gladish, real estate as recorded in Pike County. He plays Hunter No. Two at the local children's playhouse. I finished fitting his costume and was giving him tips on how to prepare for the big performance. "Recite your lines in your head. Don't get nervous. Pretend the audience is in silly underpants. Make sure you go pot- ty before you go onstage..." "Mom! " my son interrupted. "I'll be fine. Leave me alone." He walked to- ward the car and waited for my hus- band to drive him. In that moment, my kid was definite- ly not thriving under my overwhelming non-neglect. I walked around my house for a min- ute, unsure of what to do with these ex- tra minutes. They had left earlier than usual. Then I remembered our new and al- ready neglected flower bed, and I filled up a pail. Like Katiedid Langrock on Facebook, at http://www.facebook.com/katiedid- humor. NEGLECT Continued from page 4
