Quentin Neal, 27, of the 3400 block of North 77th Street, was charged Tuesday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with first- degree intentional homicide, first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the death of 21-year-old Shannon D. Mani, his estranged girlfriend. Probable cause was found Tuesday to pursue the charges against Neal. If convict- ed, he faces life in prison. Mani's parents first became concerned for their daughter's safety on Friday after- noon, when the normally responsible Mani failed to pick up her little brother from school, according to a criminal complaint. When her employer called to say she had not shown up for her shift, they reached out to the defendant, who initially denied hav- ing heard from Mani that day and reported- ly said he did not know where she was. The parents, who said Mani was preg- nant with Neal's child, drove to Milwaukee to contact Neal at his house, but were not able to find him, the complaint states. That is when they went to Waukesha police to report their daughter missing. Through their investigations, Waukesha officers were reportedly able to get Mani's Apple watch, which showed a text message exchange between her and the defendant indicating they had made plans to meet at his residence early Friday afternoon. Milwaukee police obtained a search war- rant of Neal's home in which forensics investigators used a "latent bloodstain reagent" that allegedly pointed to several areas across Neal's basement where blood may have been before being cleaned up. Those areas reportedly included a 6-foot area on the basement floor near the water meter pipe, a basement floor mat near a sta- tionary tub, a bucket inside the tub and the top of the basement stairs. After confronting Neal with the alleged evidence, the defendant eventually admit- ted to shooting Mani twice in the head and cutting her, the complaint states. He then stuffed Mani's body into a garbage bag and suitcase and placed it in a Milwaukee stor- age locker, according to the complaint. A detective who recovered Mani's body reportedly found that she had been stabbed multiple times in the face and neck, shot twice in the head, and her eyes had been covered with duct tape. Her wrists and ankles were also bound by tape, the com- plaint states. An autopsy later revealed that Mani was 24 weeks pregnant. Neal remains in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $500,000 bond, according to online court and jail records.
