A freshman on the team, Reese Gambetta, says that "we plan on doing very well in our meet this weekend, and we hope that we will be able to rank highly as a team." Gambetta also says that "by doing well in this meet, I will be able to meet my goal of running in the A group for practices." A junior, Julia Silvera, says that "cross country is a good way to relieve stress and push yourself." Her goal for the season is to get a personal record. Silvera says that to accomplish this goal, she must "put in the work in practice and take care of myself." In order for the team to be Christopher Huhn Staff Writer Cross Country CC runners relieve stress able to do well, they must all work extremely hard in practice and they must all do well in the meet. Gambetta says that "being in cross country keeps you in good shape and helps you clear your mind." "And it makes it easier to run" and because "there are people on the team that make running funny." Gambetta likes running on the high school team more than As the varsity football season continues, their record and skills keep getting better and better. Right in their official league season they are 3-0, but overall they are 3-3, preseason included. The first varsity player interviewed was the main quarterback Marshal Brose, senior. Brose was asked how he felt about his coaching staff and he said, "They are definitely experienced, encouraging, and amazing all the way around." Brose says that their greatest strength as a whole team would have to be running the ball. Their greatest weakness would be how they have a lot of injuries on the team. When Brose was asked how he gets along with his teammates, he says that they all have created a special family bond through the sport. Last year Brose says that their toughest competitor was West Valley and so far this year it has been Lassen. To prepare for an upcoming game Brose says they don't do anything really special they just work hard in practice and study the upcoming opponent's skills, techniques. Brose explains that if Red Buff is going to advance their skills to the next level they much work on their defense. Next interviewed was the wide receiver and outside linebacker Trenton Coates, senior. Coates response to the question "How is your coaching staff?", was that they are really good, strict at times when it is needed but mainly laid back and easy going. When we asked what their greatest strength was, he explained that it was their capability to run the ball. Their greatest weakness is also how many injuries are inflicted upon the team. Coates believes that their last year's greatest competitor was Lassen and this year it is Anderson. To better the varsity team's skills Coates states that "Our wideouts need to catch the ball because lately they have been dropping them and the line needs to hold their blocks longer." The last Varsity player interviewed was the backup quarterback and wide receiver Logan Robertson, junior. Robertson says their greatest strength is their depth on offense and their greatest weakness is their defense. The next question Robertson was asked was about who their greatest competitor last and this year was West Valley. To prepare for an upcoming game Robertson says he gets plenty of good sleep to be well rested. With the Spartans latest victory over Las Plumas, defeating them by 25-10 in the first game, and 25-17 in the second, they are more motivated than ever. The Red Bluff volleyball team has many goals, but a very important goal to them is to "Beat Pleasant Valley, they are our biggest competitor", says Mary Cottier, the teams outside hitter, who has been playing volleyball for three years. When asked what the team could improve on, Cottier replied with, "I think our team could be louder, and have more enthusiasm; it really brings out the intensity." A couple weeks ago, the Spartans hosted a tournament Friday and Saturday, and made it all the way to the championship game. The Freshman volleyball team played as hard as possible, yet the were still defeated by West Valley. The team will continue to strive for wins at each game. The Freshman volleyball team previously beat Enterprise at their home game on Tuesday, September 26th, with the scores of 25-23. This year, Red Bluff High offered field hockey for girls at the school. Field hockey is a sport that is played by two different teams. The team is coached by Mrs. Long. The season lasts from fall until spring. Although the team does not play games against other schools this year, they work on their techniques and defense at practice, because next year they will be playing in a league where they will play other schools. Field hockey is ran through ASSETs and is an after school activity as well as a sport. When Dalia Barragan was asked why she joined the team, she responded "I was looking for a new, fun sport to join." Another player Savanna Girls Field Hockey Christopher Huhn Staff Writer Fowler says that she joined the team because "I wanted to find a new sport to play." When asked if she liked it, she said "yes, I am very passionate about it." Fowler also said that "practices are not serious, but we work on passes and defence." The girls agreed that it's a very fun sport that they enjoy doing. They have gotten along great so far and enjoy being on the team. Because you can have many players on the field at once, field hockey is a great sport for players who do not play very much in other sports. The sport is similar to hockey and lacrosse. They use sticks and try to get the ball in the goal. Overall, field hockey is a great sport for people who want to be part of a team. What is your favorite thing about volleyball? "I love being able to play with my team and making new memories with my teammates." Grace Galleger (9) "Eating the candy we have to sell and making new friends along the way." Sophomore player Bridget Brown, who has played for five years, was asked how she balances school work and volleyball, and she responds, "I get as much work done as I can during school hours. so that I can still play volleyball and get enough sleep." Brown's favorite and least favorite aspect of volleyball is that, "I love playing with some of my best friends, but conditioning weeks are the worst." Brown was questioned: after high school, do she take interest in continuing playing volleyball? Brown explains, "I would play on a recreational team, but it would have to balance with my college life."
