Coleman was questioned, his response was,"I'd have to say our coach, Miller, because he calls me the second fastest runner on the team, and he just cracks jokes all of practice." Xavier Mejia has played four years of competitive football and plays multiple positions including tight end, defensive end, and kicker. Mejia hopes to improve in being more aware of his surroundings while on the field. "What is your favorite football memory out of the four years you have been playing?" Mejia was asked, and he responded with, "My favorite memory in football was my team going undefeated my junior peewee year." Player Brandon Coleman, has played three years of football and plays wide receiver as well as linebacker. "I expect out of this season that we beat out the other teams and become league champions." Coleman's favorite thing about football is,"I get to in tryouts, and communicate with your coach and teammates so the know about things like time, dates, and locations." As a team, Shank hopes to improve in bonding and,"becoming more so of brothers than we already are." Shank was asked, "What do you expect for the outcome of this season?" his response was,"We are going to dominate, because we are one of the most athletic teams in our league." "If they think the kneeling has to do with the flag or the anthem, then they don't really know what's going on." partan ound S off Noel Adams Staff Writer Junior Varsity football triumphs The 2017-2018 Red Bluff High's junior varsity football team has been training and are ready to defeat their opponents. Thus far, the team has won the majority of their games, and hope to continue this streak throughout their season. Player Nathan Johnson, who has played a total of two years, plays the position of corner, safety, and wide receiver. Johnson's favorite thing to do in practice is to work on his catching skills, and take input from his teammates and coaches in order to improve as much as possible. Johnson hopes to improve in his hitting, so that when it comes to later years of football, he knows the right from the wrong. Player Leslie Shank, Red Bluff High's JV linebacker, has played for the majority of his childhood, which amounts to nine years in total. Our girls varsity volleyball team has started off on a strong foot with an undefeated record and a big win at the Dixon volleyball tournament a couple weekends ago. A chance for varsity volleyball players to have a rematch against one of the strongest teams in league. Here's what varsity player Carissa Twitchell had to say about her team. When mentioned what Carissa loves most about her team, she was quick to say that "we work really well together" which is the reason the girls have been so successful this season. With only one loss to Shasta, the Red Bluff's biggest The Freshman Football team is off to a good start as they have only lost one game which was against Shasta High School. Seth Miller, an extremely talented player, plays fullback and defensive end for his team. When asked what his favorite part about playing football is, Miller stated that he enjoys being able to make a difference for his team and himself. Seth stated that he believes that high biggest competitor; however, he believes his team won't loose another game for the rest of the season. Miller has been playing competition, the girls are putting in the most work to come back and sweep every other team in league. Twitchell also stated that "the better we are at communicating the better way play" so we should expect to hear lots of talking out on the court this season. Starting sophomore setter Sarah Reinemen, also gave some quotes about her expectations and thoughts about the beginning of the league season this year. First off, Reinemen says that what she loves most about her team is "I love that we're all close with each other and we work well together." football for a total of four years and would like to continue to play throughout the rest of high school. "To do well and not let my team down," was Miller's reply when asked what his goal for this season is. When asked what his team could work on, Miller replied with "Nothing really. We narrowed a lot of mistakes down during practice and have put them to good use." Another talented player, Christopher Perez, has been playing football for a collective total of five years. When asked whether he likes his high school team more than his prior team, Perez stated that he likes his high school team due to the fact Reinemen's quote is like Twichell's showing that their team is closer than ever on and off the court. Although Reinemen says that their biggest competition is Pleasant Valley High School who is also known as PV. Lastly, Reinemen gave me an ending quote by mentioning that the reasoning for wanting to play volleyball when she was younger was to be more like her sister. In conclusion, all homes games will take place in the main gym, and all freshman games start at 5:00 pm. Then depending on how long each game takes, will determine when junior varsity and varsity games begin. On October 19th, there will be a home game against Chico High School. A chance for varsity and JV players to have a rematch against one of the strongest teams in league and for freshmen to take another win! The Red Bluff High School team is looking to have a suc- cessful season this year as they have a number of talented swimmers such as Jayne Brandt, a very talented Soph- omore, who has been swimming for a total of five years and hopes to win Sections and break the 107 School Record. When asked what her favorite part about swim- ming is, Jayne replied "I enjoy meeting new people and making new friends." Another ex- tremely talented swim- mer, Ellie Miller, is a senior and has been swimming for around ten years. Ellie's favorite part about swimming is hanging out with her team at meets and en- joying herself. Ellie's personal goal this season is to finish without another injury. The team's co-captain Jor- dan Munoz, who has been doing the swim team for five years, says that her favorite stroke is the breast stroke. The team is coached by Lisa Null. Jordan says that she is a good coach and she appreciates every- thing that she has done for her and the team. The masters tournament is the cha mpionsh ip t o u r n a m e n t for swimming. With more people on her team that qualify, they will have a better chance of winning. Jonay Alexander, sophomore, has been playing since freshmen year and plays doubles in matches. She began playing because it seemed like a fun sport. She would like to improve on her volleys and her goal for the season is to get better at her weaknesses. She also believes that their toughest competition is PV. Abigail Shoop, sophomore, plays double matches. She believes their toughest competition is Chico and would like to improve on her footwork. Her ultimate goal for the season is to move up on the ladder. She plays because she believes the sport is fun. The Red Bluff High's Girls Tennis has already made a great start to the year. During practice the girls work on a lot of technique, footwork, and hit forehands, backhands, and live play(scrimmages). Audra Brown, sophomore, has been playing since she was little. At high school she decided she would give it another go and tried out for the team, she soon fell in love with the sport. Her goal for the season is to become a better player and to play well against the more experienced players. She believes that the PV Vikings are their toughest competition and hopes to Kenzie Salinas Staff Writer Tennis focuses on their Swimming during the season and they work as they continue that they are more competitive and skilled. Another skilled player, Trevor Coates, has been playing football for seven years and is a wide receiver and corner for his high school football team. When asked what his personal goal for the season is, he stated that he would like to score around four or five touchdowns. When asked what his favorite part about playing is, Coates replied with, "My favorite part about playing is the adrenaline rush I get when I go out on the field and hit someone." Coates also explained that his teams goal for this season is to be league champions.
