OUTSIDE THE (RED) BOX fashionable finds COMME DES GARÇONS T Comme des Garçons felt cut-out camouflage coat dress ($2,650). IKRAM AND JOSH GOLDMAN FILL US IN ON WHAT THEY'RE LOVING FOR FALL. his season Comme des Garçons presents a collection that is reminiscent of dress-up paper doll cutouts (remember paper dolls?). It was the height of Comme des Garçons—the ultimate in workmanship. Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo played with color, texture, and shape from the small to the extra-large, from the minuscule to the exaggerated. For us, that was the highlight of Paris for this fall season. We absolutely love the flower-on-camouflage coats, the flower and satin coats, and the little cut- out tops. You've never seen anything like the shape and the cutouts. Though they would seem at first to be oversize, they're actually quite ele- gant on the body. We bought almost every piece in this collection, and we barely have any left in the store. It's a collection that embodies the future and pays homage to the past. Rei Kawakubo single-handedly allows you to bask in the hope of what fashion can be. MONKEY BUSINESS W e were recently in New York and spent some time at the New York Vintage Fair. Upon entering the place, we immediately fell in love with an 1820s pin of two little monkeys. It's a dainty piece on a small chain, about two inches long, made of diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires. It's superb—in fact, it's the most exquisite thing you've ever seen. When we found it, we were with writer Lynn Yaeger, who's a real vin- tage hound, and she too had never seen anything like it. We call our little boys "monkeys," so it brings us closer to them every day. ON TARGET T he new Target store is the most exciting thing that's happening in shopping; it is the only place that we love to shop other than our store. You can get everything your heart desires there—a box of cereal, Q-tips, or the perfect little T-shirts for kids, literally everything. It's been long over- due for us to have a CityTarget—we used to have to trek all the way out to wherever to get our Target fix, and now they've brought it closer to us. They're collaborating with designers to make an amazing shopping expe- rience, and even better, they have expanded that collaboration to encompass store owners, artists, and stylists. They're working on bringing all these creative forces to make a more interesting Target, and they do it with perfection. We collaborated with Target this season, styling 10 looks for summer. Recently they honored us as style icons in Chicago at a dinner we hosted for Target on July 19. The who's who of the city were here; it was a very cool thing and an extraordinary night.
