The concerts will feature a professional brass quintet with an "audience sing-out" that will be held from Thanksgiving until Christ- mas at different sites around the county. "Music lovers will delight in what we hope will become a cherished annual Wauke- sha County Christmas tradi- tion for years to come," said Major Nelson De La Vergne, corps officer of The Salva- tion Army of Waukesha, in a statement. The first concert will be performed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 145 E. Lis- bon Road, at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 27. Following concerts will be held in Brookfield, Mukwon- ago, North Prairie, New Berlin, Menomonee Falls, Delafield and Waukesha. Proceeds from the concert series will go toward funding the agency's 2017 charitable programs and services. The concert's first half will feature fun and familiar songs for Christmas from stage, screen, television and more, performed by Sterling and Brass, a brass quintet from Lake Country. At inter- mission, refreshments will be offered for purchase, then the concert's second half will be a joyous, old-fash- ioned, community sing-out of favorite Christmas carols and hymns. "These concerts will be fes- tive, fun and, because The Salvation Army has long been associated with brass bands, quartets and quintets, we felt this would be a great way to reintroduce ourselves and the charitable work we accomplish to the county that we have so long served," said De La Vergne. Founded in 1894, the Salva- tion Army of Waukesha County operates the county's largest emergency homeless shelter for men, manages a large food pantry, runs a commercial kitchen that serves free, hot meals to hun- dreds each week on three evenings, provides targeted financial assistance with prescriptions, utilities and rent for those most in need and provides a summertime "Feed The Kids" program, among other programs. "Many people are simply not aware of all the things we do, so we wanted to not only to say thank you to our current supporters, but also meet new people who may have never been aware that they have a local Salvation Army all their own, dedicat- ed to this county alone," De Le Vergne said in a statement. "We've come to realize that we need to do a much better job of reaching out to the residents of our county to tell our story and to ask for peoples' volunteer help, contributions and prayers." Tickets will be sold as general admission for $20 each, $18 for seniors and $6 for children and will be available through the special events website showtix4u. com. Volunteers are also needed for each of the concerts and should contact Andy Smith with the Waukesha Salva- tion Army at 262-547-7367, ext. 232, or email him at andy_smith@usc.salvation army.org.
