Riverview Medical Center In Red Bank Riverview Medical Center began in 1928 as Red Bank Hospital with only 29 beds, one operating room, one delivery room, and facilities for six newborns. Forty patients were admit- ted to the hospital during a two-week period in November 1928, and the total expenses for nursing salaries, groceries, gas, and electric were less than $500. A contest was held in 1929 to change the name of the facility, and Mrs. Joseph Asay chose the name of Riverview Hospital, which was approved by the board. Riverview was in a constant state of construction and expansion from the 1930s through the 1950s. The 1980s brought more changes, upgrades, and expansions, includ- ing the redesigned Women and Children's Pavilion, the Riverview Rehabilitation Center, the Women's Diagnostic Center, and the Booker Cancer Center. About ten years ago, the K. Hovnanian Pavilion, including the Alton A. Hovnanian Emergency Care Center and Critical Care Center, were added as new facilities and provided patients with more space, more phy- sicians, and new technology.
