In an easily accessible environ- ment, this state-of-the-art medical facility offers both private health care services and services that are traditionally limited to hospitals—all under one roof. Meridian Health Village at Jackson is the first of its kind in central New Jersey—a single destination for convenient health care. The unique Y-shaped design has both a retail and residential feel, offering a wide mix of services for the mind, body, and soul. Wellness Education And Support Groups Meridian Health advocates wellness education and offers a wide variety of online resources such as newslet- ters, articles, and information about health-related and wellness topics, including nutrition and fitness. Providing a diverse network of classes, services, and support at each of its locations leads to a more edu- cated and healthier community. In addition, by sponsoring year- ly events, such as "Paint the Town Pink" and the "Heart and Sole 5K," Meridian helps to unite the commu- nity while bringing health awareness to the forefront. A sampling of the classes and screenings hosted by Meridian Health throughout the Jersey Shore region includes AngioScreen, health fairs, smoking cessation, childbirth preparation, balance screenings, safe driving, babysitter preparation, and self-defense. Meridian's many support groups for individuals and families deal- ing with specific issues such as Alzheimer's, cancer, substance abuse, depression, and more offer education and a shoulder to lean on. Classes and support groups are offered on a rolling basis, and most are free to attend. Cancer Care At Meridian One significant expansion taking place in the Meridian network is that of Meridian Cancer Care. All Meridian affiliated hospitals have earned the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accreditation with commendation for their cancer programs, which is an achievement received by less than one-third of all cancer programs across the country. Meridian is also the first health system in New Jersey to be recognized as an Integrated Network Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer. Meridian Health recently invested $128-mil- lion to vastly improve cancer care for the Jersey Shore community, dubbed the "BuildingHope" project. Mark Krasna, M.D., Medical Director of Meridian Cancer Care said, "It includes new technology with state-of-the-art linear accelera- tors for radiation oncology and brand new chemotherapy infusion centers with an open air feeling for our patients." Network upgrades include the availability of state-of-the-art outpa- tient oncology at the new Meridian Cancer Care facility at Meridian Health Village at Jackson. Bayshore Community Hospital is expanding cancer services, while Ocean Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center and Southern Ocean Medical Center are expanding facilities, technology, and treatment options for cancer patients.
