They are often led to believe that injections or surgery is the only option for treatment. Most injuries actually occurred a long time ago and the pain went away. While attempting to heal, scar tissue slowly begins to form. Over time the scar tissue limits the range of motion of the shoulder and eventually calcifies, causing arthritis of the shoulder joint. Limitation of movement of the arm then becomes a common problem. This process can often take years or decades to progress and the patient may not "feel" pain all the time, but instead, incorrectly blames "old age" as the problem. When the pain becomes more regular or they are unable to sleep on their side due to pain, treatment is often sought. Usually this is when the patient presents to our office. Proper treatment includes Chiropractic and rest to reduce inflammation. Exercise will continue to inflame the damaged tissue. Chiropractic treatment involves adjustment of the shoulder joint to restore motion and gently reduce scar tissue formation. Over time, depending on how far they have let the problem progress, the patient can regain full range of motion and use of the shoulder. Many patients report that they feel better than they have in years, all without drugs or surgery. I have had patients who cannot reach behind their back, now are able to scratch their upper back, or put their arm into their shirt sleeves, much to their enjoyment. Chiropractic care can help someone you know restore their health. Our advanced training helps treat and explain many shoulder and arms conditions thought not treatable. Give us a call!
