July 18, 2014 • Milwaukee County Post • 3 Post Staff MILWAUKEE — Travelers who normally take Interstate 94 through the Zoo Interchange will have to find an alternative route between tonight and Monday morn- ing. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced that beginning at 11 p.m. tonight, I-94 will be closed to traf- fic between Highway 100 and the eastern half of the Zoo Interchange. The closure is expected to be completed by 5:30 a.m. Monday. The DOT says the closure will allow the new bridge spans for the Union Pacific Railroad lines to be placed over I-94. In addi- tion to the work on the rail bridge, the west span of Highway 100 will be demolished as work continues to progress on the recon- struction of the Highway 100 Interchange. A large-diameter storm sewer pipe also will be installed across the freeway in the construc- tion zone during the closure. The DOT says traffic backups and delays are anticipated along the freeway segments approaching the closure. It suggests that motorists make alternative travel plans to get around the construction zone. The closure is weather-dependent, the DOT said in a release. However, the National Weather Service projects good weather for the weekend with only a 10 percent chance of rain. DOT: I-94 to be closed both ways all weekend Post Staff MENOMONEE FALLS — A 25-year-old Wauwatosa man died following a single- vehicle crash on Highway 41/45 on July 10. According to Menomonee Falls police, the man was the lone occupant of the car. The man's car struck a right-hand guardrail just before the Highway 145 exit, went air- borne and landed more than 100 feel beyond the initial impact. The incident happened at 4:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes near HIghway 145. The driver was taken to a hospital, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
