IN BUSINESS COURTS BOUNCER ALLEGES ASSAULT BY CHAMPION BOXER’S BODYGUARD By Steve Green senior staff writer A Las Vegas nightclub bouncer claims in a new lawsuit he was roughed up and injured by a bodyguard for boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. An attorney for Clay Gerling filed suit in Clark County District Court against Mayweather and his companies and a John Doe bodyguard charging that Gerling was assaulted Jan. 2 at Drai’s at Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon. The suit said Gerling was working as a security guard and had “carded,” or asked for identification from Mayweather and others in his group when an unidentified bodyguard grabbed and choked Gerling. The suit says Gerling suffered injuries to his head and neck that may be permanent as well as “extreme and severe mental anguish.” Clean, Efficient, Greener Than You Think. BOTTOM NOW NOT EXPECTED UNTIL 2012 HOME VALUES, FROM PAGE 11 Zillow reported that 28.4 percent of homeowners with mortgages owed more than their houses were worth. Zillow said forecasts show it is unlikely that home values will reach a bottom in 2011, prompting the company to revise its forecast. Zillow is now predicting a nationwide bottom in housing prices in 2012 at the earliest. “Home value declines are currently equal to those we experienced during the darkest days of the housing recession. With accelerating declines during the first quarter, it is unreasonable to expect home values to return to stability by the end of 2011,” Zillow Chief Economist Dr. Stan Humphries said in a statement. SMALL BUSINESS LOANS SIGN OF BETTER TIMES The amount of Small Business Administration loans guaranteed in Nevada has reached its highest level since before the recession. Elizabeth Echols, regional SBA administrator, said it has guaranteed $90 million in loans in fiscal year 2011, which started in October. That’s up from $48 million in 2010 and $57 million in 2009, and compares with $112.7 million in fiscal year 2008, which ended Sept. 30 and was when the financial meltdown started. The SBA guarantees portions of loans made by banks. Echols said the increase is a reflection of an improving economy. Many businesses that focused on survival weren’t willing to take on debt, but now are seeking funding to help them grow.
