Beauty From Page 1A "You need a good quality SPF that has quality ingre- dients," Sarskas said. "It should be SPF 30, and you always need it on. It's a no- brainer when it comes to SPF – you need it." Moisturizers with SPF are now made to meet every makeup need, Sarskas said. They can be purchased as a straight SPF, a moisturizer with SPF, or a tinted moisturiz- er that includes SPF. Purple eye shadow hues are a huge hit for summer, Berns said. Orchid, lilac and lavender shades are also popular, and some are even venturing into blueish aqua tones. Sarskas said makeup col- ors inspired by nature and floral themes are popular, and a sheer pastel eye is a great spring alternative to a smoky eye. The bolder the better when it comes to lips, Berns said. Orange lips, from neon to coral, can be seen this spring and sum- mer. But, be sure to tone down the rest of your makeup when wearing a bold lip color, she said. Skin protection Fresh-faced, glowing skin is the perfect look for the warmer months. To obtain this look, Berns recom- mends using lighter tinted moisturizers or blemish balm creams, rather than heavy foundation. The biggest makeup trend for spring and summer is to wear little or no makeup, so well-conditioned and hydrated skin is key, she said. For an added glow, use a matte bronzer, which also doubles as a concealer. And, many are welcom- ing warmer weather with shorter hair, Berns said. "Short hair is certainly big for spring and sum- mer," she said. "It's a good thing to change it up." Something to keep in mind, she said, is that a bob doesn't necessarily mean easy. For those look- ing for a short, easy 'do, Berns recommends going really short. For men, Berns said she's seeing men enter back into an era of barbering. "They're going for looks that are very clean-look- ing," she said. Red hair is also making its way into the summer scene. Berns said she's see- ing a lot of people opt for radiant orchid colors when it comes to hair color. As for blond hair, more are choosing a white-blond shade. If your hair is feeling dry after the long winter, make sure to help repair it with a deep conditioner, said Kristy Reilly, a stylist and color specialist at Aura Salon LLC. "Get a good deep condi- tioner, and do it once a week," she said. And if you're going to be venturing out in the sun or cooling off in a pool, pro- tect hair with leave-in con- ditioner, or pull it up into a hat, Reilly said. Think of summer as a time to mix things up. "This is the time of year when women are out look- ing at shoes and clothes for the new season," Berns said. "Think about freshen- ing up your hairstyle when a new season comes too." By Kirsten Klahn Special to The Freeman PEWAUKEE – With sum- mer around the corner, now is the time to get your skin into shape. First thing on the to-do list: exfoliate. "Exfoliate whether it's your feet or your face," said Kristin Sarskas, an aestheti- cian at Aura Salon LLC, 285 Forest Grove Drive, Suite 100, Pewaukee. "Otherwise dead skin just sits there. You need to get rid of it in order to see results. Your skin will look brighter and better." Make sure to exfoliate before moisturizing, said Mary Beth Berns, co-owner of Craig Berns Salon Spa, 645 Wells St., Delafield. The key, she said, is getting the dead skin off so the moisturizer is able to soak into the skin. For people who don't want to pay salon prices to shed their winter skin, Berns said exfoliation can be done at home. Just make sure to invest in a good scrub. Don't greet the warmer weather without getting a facial, Sarskas said. In addi- tion to giving people a fresh glow, it also helps with anti- aging, she said. To keep skin looking fresh, she recom- mends getting it done every four to six weeks. "It's relaxing and rejuve- nating," Sarskas said. "It's going to give you a great glow." Reese Weymier, the spa director at Anton's Salon & Spa, which has locations in Pewaukee and Delafield, rec- ommends an O2 lift. The treatment infuses oxygen, plant-derived stem cells, pep- tides and a high concentra- tion of enzymatic botanicals into the skin, leaving it lumi- nous, refreshed and rejuve- nated – a perfect feeling for the summer months. Opting for a crystal micro- dermabrasion treatment can result in smooth and brighter skin, a reduction in fine lines and superficial wrinkles, a more even skin tone, and overall improved skin health, Sarskas said. To get skin ready for swim- suit weather, Weymier rec- ommends trying a chemical peel. Anton's offers several medical peels that refresh the skin. Other benefits of peels include reducing fine lines and wrinkles; improving the appearance of mild scarring; reducing age spots, freckles and dark patches due to preg- nancy or taking birth control pills; and improving the look and feel of skin. "The chemical peels really refresh and rejuvenate the skin," Weymier said. And, of course, don't forget hair removal. Options include standard waxing or laser hair removal. For those interested in waxing, be sure to have about four weeks of growth beforehand. Men can take advantage of these ser- vices too, especially when it comes to removing unwanted back and chest hair. As for laser hair removal, Anton's recommends at least six laser hair removal sessions that take place four to 10 weeks apart. These treatments will have people feeling ready for sum- mer on both the inside and outside, Sarskas said. To make it easier for women to get the treatments they want, Aura Salon is offering a Woman's Day Spe- cial, which is valid until June 30. It allows women to sign up for as many of the offered treatments as they want and get them all done on the same day. Treatment options include manicure, pedicure, facial, shampoo and style, and haircut and color. "Take time for yourself," Sarskas said. "You'll walk out feeling good and ready for summer."
