THE PAINTER Nelida D'Allesandro demonstrates a master's use of tints and shades as a veteran hair colorist. "Above all, I'm an artist," says Nelida D'Allesandro, the regional creative color manager and educator for Mario Tricoci, and the go-to colorist for visiting celebrities like Winona Ryder, Betrayal's Hannah Ware, and the cast of Chicago Fire. Like an oil painter on canvas, she mixes shades to create a subtle but luxurious color for her clients—but the process starts long before that. "I stay on top of what is progressive and innovative," D'Allesandro says, "to provide clients with looks that continue to evolve who they are." The Chicago look: I've been blessed to be exposed to the beauty cultures across the country, and I feel like here in the Midwest, we really want our beauty to coincide with our personality. We want it to be true to who we are. Color forecast: 122 We're taking it back to the elegant classics. The popular look used to be super dark up at the top and really light at the bottom; there was this stark contrast. The ombré isn't going away, but it's going to be a lot more subtle. Not just skin deep: Color transforms because it starts out on an emotional level and then takes shape visually. For a fresh start: Have an open mind and venture into something you haven't done before. Celebrate pure beauty—but maybe add a little flair! My guilty pleasure: Some people see a psychologist; I go for shopping therapy. New Year's resolution: Meditate on a regular basis. That state of mind is important in order to continue to reinvent yourself and be on top of your game. Mario Tricoci, 900 N.
