Cron of the Tampa Bay Rays Johnny Manziel is going from playing football on the shores of one of the Great Lakes to that of another. He's also playing in a different league, as well as a different country. In May, Manziel joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, who host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Friday, June 29 on ESPN2. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback, who also won the Heisman Trophy in 2012, is getting a new start in football, and perhaps in life. His time in Cleveland was tumultuous at best, as it was laden with personal problems. He hasn't played football since 2015. Now, with former NFL and NCAA coach June Jones trying to resurrect what has been an equally unsuccessful Hamilton franchise in the CFL, Manziel gets a second shot. Should he get the fire back he had during his college years and have success, it would certainly be a positive aspect for the CFL, Manziel and the Tiger-Cats. Although he could be holding the clipboard, having a nationally televised game in the U.S. is a huge deal for the CFL, and any extra eyes that tune in will be looking to see "Johnny Football" on the field. Manziel's return to football began with a stint in the Spring League, where he hoped the NFL would come calling. When it didn't, he agreed in May to a two-year contract with Hamilton, who began pursuing him over the winter to play football this summer and fall.
