Ladell William Harrison of Milwaukee was charged with flee- ing police resulting in the death of o f f i c e r C h a r l e s Irvine Jr., 23, and causing bodily harm to his partner, o f f i c e M a t t h e w Schulze, 36, who tried to pull over Harrison on June 7 on the city's Northwest Side. Visitation for Irvine will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Jelacic Funeral Home in Brookfield, followed by funeral services. While pursuing Harrison, Irvine was killed after his squad flipped over an estimated 20 times near North 76th Street and West Silver Spring Drive, according to a witness in a criminal complaint. Schulze was reportedly treated for a concussion, broken ribs and a cut that required stitches, and has been released from Froedtert Hospital. The high-speed pursuit came after a change in Milwaukee Police Department policy in the fall that broadened its chase guide- lines after seven years. The previ- ously limited chases had been cited by the Fire and Police Commission as emboldening sus- pects. Harrison, who allegedly eluded a second police chase before being arrested while on foot, said in the complaint, "I thought you guys couldn't pursue vehicles unless it was a felony." Harrison became the subject of a task force investigation follow- ing the fatal fetanyl overdose of a Town of Vernon man Nov. 3.
