We are all guilty of giving in to the pressures and demands of family, work and personal obligations. As a result, a cloud of disinterest and discouragement forms over our life. Whether it is a rela- tionship, a job, an education or even a hobby, there was some reason that led us to making a commitment. When we fi nd ourselves not enjoying what we are doing or dreading our responsibilities, that is a clear indication that we have forgotten our primary purpose. When we arrive at those times of our life we are often tempted to walk away or look for new avenues of interest. The only problem with making that choice is that we will fi nd ourselves in the same condition again and again, because the newness in- evitably wears off of everything. We are of- ten guilty of addressing our lack of desire extrinsically while denying that the prob- lem is intrinsic. Thus, the key to correcting this issue involves an honest evaluation of our heart's desire. The question we have to ask our- selves is why or what led us to start in the fi rst place. There is nothing like the excite- ment and zeal of initiating a journey, but if we are not careful we will often forget what motivated us to begin. Perhaps it was a desire to help others or to make the world a different place. The love we have for a person is often the underlying reason for a relational commitment. Perhaps, it was a vision of achieving a personal goal or a desired end that caused us to start a task. There is no shame in admitting that at certain times in our life we simply need to "push the reset button."
