The Board of Directors for The Hope Chest for Women is pleased to announce that Terri Bowman has been selected to serve as Executive Director for the nonprofi t. Bowman brings over a decade of nonprofi t leadership and fundraising experience to The Hope Chest having worked with such organizations as Meals On Wheels, CARING for Children and ABCCM. The Hope Chest for Women is based in Asheville and serves 22 Western NC counties by providing medical and non-medical emergency fi nancial assistance to women diagnosed with breast and/or gynecological- related cancer. Cancer is the #1 cause of death in North Carolina with 1 in 5 residents expected to be diagnosed at some point in their life. Breast cancer is the leading form of disease. Bowman, who lost her sister to cancer in 2009, says she's honored to be working with The Hope Chest for Women and explained: "A cancer diagnosis can be personally overwhelming to any woman. But the fi nancial impact of going through treatments, losing your job, and in some cases, your home and everything you've worked for can be devastating to the average family. Some women have no family and must struggle with cancer alone. Many members of our staff and board are cancer survivors. This gives us a unique perspective and ability to relate to the women we want to help!"
