TV Media Weekly | May 19 - 25, 2018 8 | Sunday afternoon It's a night packed with awards, music and celebrity, and it's all happening on NBC on Sunday, May 20, with the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. Broken memories: Get ready for an emotional roller- coaster. One of the darlings at this year's Sundance film festi- val has been picked up by HBO, and the dramatic tale isn't one that takes it easy on its audi- ence's emotions. "The Tale," which stars two- time Oscar nominee Laura Dern ("Big Little Lies"), premieres on the premium network on Saturday, May 26. The film was written and directed by acclaimed documenta- ry filmmaker Jennifer Fox ("Beirut: The Last Home Movie," 1987), based on her own experiences as a teenager, with Dern playing a fic- tionalized version of her. Dern stars as Jennifer, a success- ful documentarian whose mother (Ellen Burstyn, "The Exorcist," 1973) uncovers a short story that Jennifer wrote when she was 13. The story describes encounters that she had while away at sum- mer camp with her running coach (Jason Ritter, "W.," 2008) and rid- ing instructor (Elizabeth Debicki, "The Great Gatsby," 2013), and while she's never shared her expe- riences that summer with anyone, she's always looked back fondly on the memories. At her mother's urging, though, she's finally forced to confront her memories of events that happened decades before, dragging them into the light of day and discover- ing that our memories of the past often don't line up with reality. It's a story that's haunting and that can be difficult to watch, but it's one that's all to relevant in this day and age. "The Tale" premieres Sat- urday, May 26, on HBO. Medical success story: How's this for a distinction? ABC recently renewed "Grey's Anatomy" for a 15th season, which officially makes it the longest-ever prime- time drama on the network. It's one heck of an accomplishment, tying it with "ER" for the status of TV's longest-running medical dra- ma ever. The renewal doesn't come as much of a surprise, since series star Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Mere- dith Grey and has been with the series since the beginning, already had a deal in place for two more seasons — a deal that makes her TV's highest-earning actress in a drama. "'Grey's Anatomy' has a special place in my heart and millions of viewers feel the same way," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement. "Thanks to fiercely loyal fans who have been on this journey since the beginning, and new generations of viewers who continue to discover the joy and drama of Grey Sloan Memorial, the show is as strong as ever." 05/20 1 PM 1:30 2 PM 2:30 3 PM 3:30 4 PM 4:30 5 PM 5:30 6 PM 6:30 S1 S2 WTTV 4 A.
