Francisco International
Airport. When they entered
the terminal they were
led through the airport by
an honor guard, bagpipe
quartet, and members of the
USO. Hundreds gathered
along the route applauding
and thanking the veterans.
Mr. Riel continues to be
awestruck by the reception
that they received throughout
their journey. He continues to
remark that while he was in
the service, he was only doing
his job. Those who know Mr.
Riel know of his selflessness
while serving, putting himself
in harm's way time and time
again to render aid and save
the lives of other servicemen.
The Honor Flight Network's
philosophy is, "Since America
felt it was important to build
a memorial to the service and
the ultimate sacrifice of her
veterans, the Honor Flight
Network believes it's equally
important that they actually
get to visit and experience
THEIR memorial." According
to the Network, "Top priority
is given to America's most
senior heroes — survivors of
World War II and any veteran
with a terminal illness who
wishes to visit THEIR memorial.
The program will naturally transition to Korean War, Vietnam War and all other
veterans who served, on a chronological basis. All men and women serving stateside
or overseas are eligible."
Mr. Riel and his family would like to thank Jim and Pat Weaver for making them aware
of the Honor Flight program.
