MAY 2018, TEHAMA - THE MAGAZINE 21 The Studio Great changes have taken place in the building's spacious basement to convert it into the Community Art Studio. Program Coordinator Chrissie Clapp did the setting up, along with Chairman Robert Bird who did much of remodeling including the installation of a kiln and potter's wheels. Clapp wrote a grant to the McConnell Fund and received $27,000 to purchase panels and lights for the Gallery and equipment and furniture for the Studio and gift shop. Clapp is teaching some of the classes along with other instructors. The community studio offers a well-equipped classroom available for the use of art instructors from the community. Some classes offered include pottery, art classes for charter schools, mentor programs and community programs like Restore, art journaling, watercolors, polymer clay, acrylic pouring, rock painting, using a Cricut, drawing, mixed media, portrait charcoal drawing and pastel drawing. Clapp welcomes suggestions for additional classes and is in need of community members to step forward to volunteer to teach the classes. The original group that met in 2016 not only came away excited about the building and the prospect of having a Gallery and Community Art Studio make a difference. They wanted to develop a reciprocal relationship with local artists, organizations, downtown businesses and the community. They saw this as a tourist spot as well as a wonderful gallery for the community. The Main Event Gallery will host tours, group gatherings and class field trips about any day of the week. " We encourage people to stop by and bring the sack lunch for a quiet pleasant lunch break. We have art books and magazines to peruse as you wait for a ride to while away your time," said Chrissie Clapp, Council Board Member.
