Some of those events bring back the mystery of the early days of the resort, when the wealthy would travel to the sulphur springs of French Lick and West Baden to "take the water," which was believed to cure a variety of ailments. "From sterility to senility, I tell people," said Dyan Duncan, who works in marketing for the French Lick Resort. She said she loves to look at the old postcards that show people claiming to be cured after a day at the waters, and said she thinks she knows the secret to the resort's restorative powers. "While they were here, they were told they needed to eat well, exercise, and give up alcohol, so it's true that it probably really did make them feel better," she said.
