TV Media Weekly | May 12 - 18, 2018 8 | Sunday afternoon 1990s. The focus of the spinoff will be squarely on the teachers at William Penn Academy. The pickup is actually the spinoff's second chance at life, after ABC went so far as to order a pilot over a year ago, only to decline a full series order on the show. Well, "Goldbergs" fans don't have to worry about that this time, with a full 13 episodes on order. Among the new cast is former "The Goldbergs" star AJ Michalka, who played Lainey for four seasons before leaving ahead of the fifth season. She'll be jumping right back into the same role, only now as a teach- er at William Penn Academy. Recurring "Goldbergs" guest stars Tim Meadows and Bryan Callen will also reprise their roles, with Meadows now toplining as Principal Glascott and Callen as Coach Mellor. De- spite their unique eccentricities and personal lives, all three characters are looked up to by their students. "The Goldbergs" spinoff has had a long and winding road to get to this point, but with a firm 13-episode commitment, it looks like it will finally see the light of day. Watch for the new series next season on ABC. Back for more: They say that all good things must come to an end, but that old idiom apparently doesn't apply to "NCIS." The CBS drama has been a mainstay at the network for a whopping 15 seasons, and with a recent 16th-season pick- up, it seems that the venerable procedural still has lots of life in it. That's not the only good news for all the "NCIS" fans out there. Mark Harmon ("Chi- cago Hope"), who's headlined the cast since the very first sea- son, has reportedly inked a new contract to stay on for the new season as well. "It's pretty simple — view- ers everywhere love 'NCIS,'" CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl said in a statement announcing the renewal. "This show speaks to viewers of all ages, in all parts of the country and around the world. 'NCIS's' amazing characters and terrific storytelling result in some of TV's most passionate fans." Passionate fans indeed! It- self a spinoff of "JAG," "NCIS" has spawned two of its own successful spinoffs — "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "NCIS: New Orleans" — each with its own group of loyal viewers. Sadly for fans, there's at least one face that won't be on screen when the 16th season arrives. Pauley Perrette ("Al- most Famous," 2000), who's starred alongside Harmon since the very beginning, has hung up her hat and moved on from the series. Despite that, the show must go on, as they say. 05/13 1 PM 1:30 2 PM 2:30 3 PM 3:30 4 PM 4:30 5 PM 5:30 6 PM 6:30 S1 S2 WTTV 4 A. Griffith Show A.
