Restoring the Grand Trunk Wetland to its original luster has been on decision-makers' radar screens in some form for about a decade through various action plans and overtures within City Hall. Grand Trunk, sometimes called the Bay View Wetland, is considered one of the last vestiges of the swaths of wetlands and marshes that are believed to have once dominated the landscape in and near the Harbor District area. The natural area is situated near East Bay Street, South Marina Drive and East Stewart Street. Historic documents reveal Milwaukee once hosted an exten- sive wetland and marsh ecosys- tem, aided by Lake Michigan and 'Grand' plans on the horizon for wetland site in city's Harbor District See GRAND TRUNK on Page 15 Local news at your fingertips Visit www.gmtoday.com Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/MilwaukeePost Dave Fidlin/Special to the Post The COFCO (formerly Nidera) grain elevators are on the periphery of the Grand Trunk Wetland site in the city's Harbor District. with a purchase of 50 yds of Carpet -OR- 30 yds of Sheet Vinyl 260335009 * 4820 W.
