Artist of the Month: Jill Carey Michaels Artist Statement "My mix-media paintings 'Highway Art' were inspired by the uniquely American experience of driving coast to coast on the interstate. The collection reflects my impression of modern America as billboards, tollbooths, road signs, truck stops and skylines rushed past my car window, in and out of focus. To illustrate this scene effect, I painted, drew and collaged familiar highway images and words into raw canvas, often layering them with animated paint strokes to create dimensions and tell the story." See Her Work Jill Carey Michaels will exhibit her mix-media paintings at The Wilber Mansion Gallery at 11 Ford Ave. in Oneonta. The opening reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. The show runs through Friday, Dec. 21. Her work will be joined in the exhibit by Beth Brown's photographs and Kelly Sullivan's ceramics. Above: 'Fireworks,' painting.
