Celebrating journalism Journalists from around the state gathered for the 2012 Newsroom Seminar & Better Newspaper Contest Awards Luncheon on Dec. 1 at the Indianapolis Marriott North. HSPA Foundation sponsors the annual event. Nearly 250 journalists attended this year. Staff members of The Indianapolis Star celebrate the newspaper's Blue Ribbon award for dailies. Seminars included sessions on watchdog journalism, multimedia, public access to information and photography, among others. Winners of the two coveted Blue Ribbon awards for journalistic excellence were The Indianapolis Star in the daily division and The Corydon Democrat in the nondaily division. Newspapers who won first-place general excellence awards in the competition's six divisions were The Times-Post (Pendleton), Brown County Democrat (Nashville), Daily Reporter (Greenfield), The Herald Bulletin (Anderson), Journal & Courier (Lafayette) and The Indianapolis Star. Owners and staff members of The Corydon Democrat were on hand to receive the newspaper's Blue Ribbon award for nondailies. Robyn The 2013 McCloskey Annual Meetings and Government Conference at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis promise to put a damper on the winter doldrums and lift your spirits. Replace all the gloom with camaraderie, problem-solving, innovative ideas, access to legislators, good food, great spirits – and a facility tour and reception in the Quarterback Suite at Lucas Oil Stadium. Robyn McCloskey, CNHI senior vice president and division manager and HSPA Board of Directors vice president, chairs the conference planning committee. The group, made up of Copper Club members – past presidents of the HSPA and HSPA Foundation boards – has added new concepts to the event, McCloskey said. "The Copper Club members came up with some great ideas to make the 2013 programming more valuable for members – and the See MEETINGS, Page 4 Attendance high at series on access B ecause of strong interest by citizens in this year's Public Access Seminar series, Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller's office has posted on its website a video of the training sessions on public records and open meeting Greg Zoeller laws. This year's second annual access series was held in 11 locations around Indiana through the summer and fall. The Hoosier State Press Association was again a sponsor.
