2 • Milwaukee County Post • April 6, 2018 Conley News Service WAUKESHA — A Milwaukee woman allegedly stole a $45,000 ring from a Summit home while working as a cleaning company employee last February. Paolo Alvarado Barahona, 27, was charged March 30 in Waukesha County Circuit Court with a felony count of theft. She faces up to 10 years in prison if con- victed. She was ordered held on a $1,500 cash bond or a $5,000 signature bond and was to appear in court again today. A criminal complaint said a Summit woman reported Feb. 12 that a 3.5 carat ring worth about $45,000 was missing from her home, where no one other than a cleaning company had access. She said she had never met one of the cleaning workers before. Officers contacted the company, whose owner reported Alvarado Barahona had been fired after a suspected theft from a dif- ferent home, the complaint said. A state property reporting system indicated Alvarado Barahona had pawned a similar ring at a Milwaukee jewelry store Feb. 9, two days after she was at the Summit home, the complaint said. The ring was recovered and determined to be that of the Summit woman, the complaint added. Post Staff MILWAUKEE — A 35-year-old Milwau- kee man was arrested for operating while intoxicated at 3 a.m. March 29 with a 10- year-old child in the back seat, the Sheriff's Office said. A deputy said he stopped a vehi- cle that was deviating from its lane of traf- fic on southbound Interstate 43 at West Maple Street. The driver, who is not being named to protect the identity of the child, said he had one beer but a preliminary breath test showed he had a 0.12 alcohol level, the Sheriff's Office said. When sober, he was allowed to take the child and vehicle from the scene, the Sheriff's Office reported. A first-offense OWI with a passenger younger than 16 carries a penalty of up to six months in jail. "Irresponsible drunk driving endanger- ing innocent children in the car is seen all too frequently on our streets," Sheriff Richard Schmidt said. "Maybe tougher leg- islation on the first offense would stop the pattern before it starts. What do you think? Let your legislators hear your voice."
