Maddi Pufahl Cancer Benefit SAUKVILLE — A fundraiser for a 22-year-old woman diagnosed with a rare from of cancer will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the Railroad Station, 200 S. Railroad St., Saukville. Maddi Pufahl, who lives in Hartland and grew up in West Bend, was diagnosed with embryonic differential sarcoma of the liver, and in 2011, had two thirds of her liver removed. She endured six rounds of chemotherapy and three surgeries to beat the "beast," according to her family. As a result, she was cancer-free from February 2012 to November 2017. But last November, Pufahl was having back pain that had persisted since a fall several months earlier. Doctors found that the pain was not from a fall, but a cancerous tumor now on Pufahl's spine. The current plan is chemotherapy with a goal of shrinking the tumor size. She had been studying agricultural education at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, but is now taking a break during her treatments. The family says the fundraiser is a way to do something positive to keep their minds busy, as well as raise money for medical bills. Donations can also be made at any Associated Bank, into the "Madeline Pufahl Medical Account." Please use ZIP code 53090.
