JERSEY SHORE PLACES
THE OCEAN GROVE TENT HOUSES, continued from page 71
13 Kingsley Place
When Mary Lou and Tom Browning were chosen to be tenters, they
had their pick of two locations. "This one had air conditioning," says
Mary Lou, and so the decision was made. They later found an unusual
old barn door from the 1880s incorporated into the wall of the wood
structure. "I'm so glad we chose this one," she says.
The kitchen at 13 Kingsley Place
offers a feature not found in all
the tents. It opens onto a covered
back porch where the Brownings
have strung charming cafe string
lights.
Tenters are just a stone's throw from all the joys and
pleasures of the Ocean Grove beach and boardwalk.
Opposite page: A classic blue and
white decor runs throughout the
tent from the living room—with
a TV, sofa, and paintings of the
Great Auditorium—to the serene
bedroom, accented by wall-hung
antique plates, china, and lace. A
framed photo sitting on a dresser
pays tribute to the Foss Family,
who occupied the very same tent
back in the 1870s.
