In 2018, the tours, which start at 9:45 AM and end at 3:00 PM, run out of five locations: New Egypt, Cape May, and Ringoes, New Jersey as well as North Fork and Hamptons on Long Island. Naturally restricted to those twenty-one years and older, the group rides of two to twenty people are generally about ten to fifteen miles in length over flat or slightly hilly terrain and feature two or three vine- yards each. Here in the Monmouth and Ocean County area, the New Egypt ride encompasses fifteen miles of horse farms and two wineries. Cyclists begin at Cream Ridge Winery with a visit to the vineyard and tank room, all while tasting unique fruit wines. Then, after peddling eight scenic miles to Laurita Winery, participants enjoy a picnic lunch in stunning countryside while sampling yet more wine. Bike baskets carry purchases home and hold water bottles. The inspiration for Pour & Pedal, owned by Jay and Jenny Cohen and Lou and Christina DeMartino, was the amount of wineries and popu- larity of biking on the North Fork. When the Cohens were married there nine years ago, they realized "there was no real centralized place to bike or arrange winery tours. We decided to put together a package so people did not need to plan or bring any- thing," says Jay. Eight years and four locations later, Pour & Pedal now conducts about fifty tours per location each season and has hosted everything from an eightieth birthday to bachelorette parties and corporate events. (Private events can be arranged for a weekday if desired.) Though the business has steadily grown, Jay says they plan to stick with their current locations and their focus on wine. In fact, this past January, they hosted the Fine Wine & Food Festival at Nassau Coliseum. Future plans may include tours with overnight stays, but for now, they are happy to make the most of day trips in New Jersey and New York's abun- dant farmland. As Herway of NJ Bike Tours states, "It's hard to beat the combination of food, fun, friends, and fitness." u Laurita Winery in New Egypt. courtesy of Tour de Farm New Jersey courtesy of Pour & Pedal Bike Tour Basics Pour & Pedal www.pourandpedal.com email: info@pourandpedal.com (855) 768-7631 Focus: wineries Locations: New Egypt, Cape May, and Ringoes, NJ; North Fork and Hamptons, Long Island, NY When: weekends April - October; private weekday events also arranged Guided: yes Cost: $130. per person Group: 2 - 20 Equipment Provided: bicycle, helmet, storage basket, water bottle Fitness Level: average NJ Bike Tours www.njbiketours.com email: njbiketours@gmail.com (801) 548-2285 Focus: farms and food, history, wineries, fitness Locations: primarily Mercer and Hunterdon counties When: you decide day and time Guided: yes Cost: $110. to $140. per person ($20. less on weekdays) Group: generally 2 - 10 Equipment Provided: bike or electric bike, helmet rental for additional charge Fitness Level: beginner to advanced Tour de Farm New Jersey www.tourdefarmnj.com email: mitchell.morrison5@mac.com (973) 222-4703 Focus: farms and food Locations: Sussex and Warren counties When: September 2 and September 22 Guided: no Cost: $75. to $150. per person Group: hundreds (spread out over different routes and starting times) Equipment Provided: water, rest rooms, route signage Fitness Level: average to advanced
