Please have your funeral home send us your loved ones' obituaries to events@rutherfordweekly.com ©Community First Media Community First Media As we have previously stated, there is a price to real love. The cost is the pain we experience when the per- son who is the object of our love leaves our life. We all have a choice when it comes to love. Would you rather play it safe and never open up your heart or do you let your heart become attached to someone with the prospects of grieving when they are gone? The answer to that question might be best answered when you begin to under- stand the value of relationships and how important they are to our well-being. Just imagine a world where there is no love. Yes, perhaps there would be the absence of grief, but instead there would be the haunting emptiness of being alone. We were created to love and to be loved and to deny that basic need would lead to a pointless life of despair. We must come to the conclusion that it is way better to have loved and lost then not to have loved at all. C.S. Lewis put it more eloquently in his book, "The Four Loves", when he wrote, "To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it careful- ly round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffi n of your selfi shness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."
