As a first-generation American and first-generation college graduate, Segura un- derstands the struggles faced by many of Chicago's youth and families. He was born in Chicago and raised by migrant parents who arrived from Mexico in the 1970s. He attended neighbor- hood public schools his entire life until high school, where he attended the Noble Network of Charter Schools, which runs 16 high-performing high schools. Segura was recently recog- nized as an Education Pioneers Chicago Agent of Change for his work in advancing educa- tion reform efforts by including families and community stake- holders. By training families to become their child's biggest education advocates, Segura has designed an organizing platform that bridges reform efforts with community needs. In 2015, Segura co-founded Future Leaders of Chicago, a leadership development pro- gram operating in partnership with the University of Chicago and the Chicago Community Trust. Each year, floChicago selects a diverse group of high school leaders and provides them with opportunities to meet with business, nonprofit and government leaders; enga- ge with diverse student leaders from the Chicago area; and gain exposure to a wide variety of challenges and opportunities in Chicago. Segura majored in com- munication studies at DePaul University and is pursuing his MBA at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He resides on the Northwest Side of Chica- go with his wife, LeShonne, and their newborn daughter, Amélie. Adrian Segura Connecting education reform with community needs "A s leaders, we owe it to our communities and city to show up authentically, all the while maintaining high expectations. It is my belief that our ties to our roots make us assets, and can provide some of the most meaningful contributions, when making decisions." Adrian Segura
