At 18, he became a precinct captain for U.S. Rep. Bill Lipinski. By age 20, he was leading marches against prostitution along Cicero Ave- nue. A year later, he was elected to serve as a community repre- sentative on the Local School Council at Kennedy High School. In 2011, at age 33, Lopez ran for alderman of the 20th Ward against the incumbent, Toni Foulkes, and forced a run-off election. A year later, Lopez ran unopposed for Democratic Com- mitteeman. After a ward re-map that saw a shift in demographics, Lopez ran again for City Council in 2015 against five challengers. He won in a run-off election with 58 percent of the vote. Prior to be- coming the 15th Ward alderman, Lopez worked for Southwest Air- lines for 12 years. Lopez is a graduate of St. Ca- millus Elementary and St. Lau- rence High School.
