Bio: Socorro M. Garcia is the
president of the Chicago chapter
of Prospanica, a nonprofit dedi-
cated to empowering the His-
panic community to achieve its
full educational, economic and
social potential. Under Garcia's
leadership, the Chicago chap-
ter was awarded Prospanica's
National Community Service
Award and Sprouting Leaders'
Champion Youth Award for its
summer-enrichment program.
Garcia is employed by the
National Association of Fire
Equipment Distributors in Chi-
cago. Previously, she worked as
a program director for the Latin
American Chamber of Commer-
ce.
Garcia was a founding mem-
ber of the Hispanic Alliance for
Career Enhancement (HACE)
Young Professionals Board and
the Mujeres de HACE Advisory
Board. She assisted in the crea-
tion of the mission, bylaws and
board structure for both. Garcia
is a proud member of Gamma
Phi Omega International So-
rority, where she served on the
National Board of Directors for
seven years and held the posi-
tion of national president. For
her outstanding leadership, Gar-
cia was featured in The Limited's
"The New Look of Leadership"
campaign.
In addition to serving on nu-
merous nonprofit boards over
the last decade, Garcia mentors
a high school student through
HFS Chicago Scholars. She also
raises funds and volunteers
annually for the American Dia-
betes Association's Step Out
Walk to Stop Diabetes.
Socorro holds a bachelor's
degree in business management
from Indiana University Bloom-
ington.
