letteR FRoM tHe eDitoR retail, they say, is dead. well, "they" have never been to camp hill. In recent years, the small, historic borough on the western side of the susquehanna has experienced a resurgence of shops, boutiques and other businesses, especially on and around market street. And even more interesting—most of these new businesses are woman-owned. that's why, for this month's cover, we decided to gather together some of the female entrepreneurs who have set up shop (so to speak) in camp hill, as we feature our first-ever focus on "women in business." of course, this phenomenon isn't exclusive to camp hill. Just last year, we gathered together a large group of harrisburg businesswomen for another photo shoot, one that honored their roles in strengthening and advancing the city's food scene. In fact, in recent years, we've written about woman-owned business throughout the region—from hummelstown to Linglestown to carlisle. It's fascinating that, in the age of Amazon, these enterprising women have been able to identify niches that e-commerce just can't match, then build businesses around them. retail isn't dead. It's just changing— and women are leading the way. speaking of leaders, our march edition is packed with them. In this issue, we feature local leaders who are taking on such weighty issues as higher education, health, poverty and even the promotion of peace. we're proud to have all of these ambitious, concerned people in our community. hey, it's march—a little warmer, a lot less snowy, the occasional hint of spring in the air. I may be jumping the gun, but I'm ready to pack away the parka and start thinking about long runs along the river, long forays into the countryside and long dinners outdoors. laWRance BinDa Editor-in-Chief We'd like to offer a special thanks to the Susquehanna Art Museum for letting us shoot our cover photo in their spectacular space. coveR aRt By: sten HaRtMan & JeFF Benzon WWW.HaRtManBenzon.coM GeneRal anD letteRs 920 n. thIrd st., suIte 101 • hArrIsburg, PA 17102 www.theburgnews.com eDitoRial: 717.695.2576 aD sales: 717.991.1660 PubLIsher: J.
