A small community nestled against the redwoods; Scotts Valley is just a "stone's throw" from Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. Yet we also get to enjoy the natural beauty of the Santa Cruz Mountains and we're just ten minutes away from Santa Cruz and the beach. In fact, some might say that Scotts Valley is the ideal location to work and to play, to raise a family or to own a business. I've often said that Scotts Valley is like our own little "slice of Mayberry". We have award winning schools, a police department with a response time of less than two minutes, and some of the most beautiful parks in the county. Every few weeks, I like to do a business walk where I go out and ask business owner's three questions: 1) How is Business? 2) What do you like about doing business in Scotts Valley? and 3) How can business in Scotts Valley be made better? Recently, the answer to that first question has been overwhelmingly positive. Commercial real estate is at a premium and our local economy is strong. The response to the other two questions has been equally positive. Businesses who have relocated here from other parts of the county often comment on how refreshing it is to do business here and how welcoming the business climate is. In particular, I often hear how approachable our local officials are, how they are willing to listen and work with businesses to help them succeed. Our little town boasts businesses of all sizes, from unique, locally owned restaurants such as Malone's Grille or Café Hanna to international companies that export goods around the globe such as the Perfumer's Apprentice or Zero Motorcycles. Most people might not even realize that companies such as Seagate, Pandora, and Netflix actually started right here in Scotts Valley!
