At 6 feet and 170 pounds, garry started the first seven games until he suffered a broken collar bone. At 5 feet, 11 inches, chris was pulled up from junior varsity and finished out the remaining three games. garry has the stronger arm, while chris can put more touch on the ball. running baCk anD wiDe reCeiver the cardinals will have a running game by committee with five avail- able players for the tail back position. senior trey gonzalez, at 5 feet, 7 inches, will lead the group with his speed and strength at the hole. gonzalez's style of running will fit perfectly in White's offense. As far as finding someone for the huerta Brothers to throw to — that won't be decided until week one. oFFenSive line there are only two returners on the offensive line this year for the cardinals. Alexis hernandez at 5 feet, 10 inches and 295, and chris lumsden at 5 feet, 11 inches and 272 pounds. Both hernandez and lumsden techniques and abilities to make the right steps in reestab- lishing the line of scrimmage is what has coach White impressed. linebaCker the strength of the cardinals' 4-3 defense will be in their linebacker corps with all three returning. gonzalez will be playing both ways at the middle linebacker position. to either side of him will be seniors ventura gonzalez and roy vargas. According to coach White, all three players flow to the point of attack as a unit which will play a big part in having to fill the running gaps left open by a young defensive line. CornerbaCk anD SaFeTy Brian Barajas will be the go-to athlete in the cardinals' secondary. At 5 feet, 7 inches and 150 pounds, Barajas is entering his third year on varsity. his speed and ability to redirect receivers will make him a true shutdown corner. chris huerta is being looked at for one of the safety positions. the other three positions in the secondary are up for grabs. DeFenSive line With hernandez and lumsden the only returning starters, the defensive line will need some help. luis garcia is a familiar face who saw some playing time last year as a junior at the defensive end position. At 5 feet, 9 inches, garcia's aggressiveness in shutting down the end will help. on the other side will be francisco cavedlo, who did not play last season.
