Tulare CounTy FooTball Preview 69 Farmersville Aztecs 2016 review Farmersville finished the season with only 4 wins through 11 games. In fact, the Aztecs dropped their first six games of the season which included a triple-OT thriller against Caruthers that handed them an 8-point loss. Regardless, their regular season ended with a four- game winning streak, allowing the Aztecs to take home another East Sierra League title, their sixth in seven years, and it got them into a Division V playoff spot before falling to Sierra 52-35. Key loSSeS In early August, senior wide receiver and running back Victor Castrejon, who had a stellar junior year, decided to move on from football, leaving behind 1,555 receiving yards, 18 touchdown receptions, 7 rushing touchdowns and 4 passing touchdowns between his sophomore and junior years. New head coach Mike Crews said that if Castrejon decides to return, he would not play him this season. 2017 Preview Head coach Mike Crews takes over for Gil Gonzales this year and has made no buts about his mission to change the culture in Farmersville football. Crews said that he is trying to instill an improved level of work ethic in players this season that will translate to an improved on-field performance, "especially in the fourth quarter where games are won or lost." And this year, like last year, the schedule favors most of their non-league opponents that have been on the rise in the last three seasons. PrediCTion Farmersville has no expectations, or reason to expect, that they are in a place to compete against their non-league opponents like Strathmore, Woodlake, Lindsay and Granite Hills. But like in 2016, they'll either eek out or blow out teams in the East Sierra League, which was recently dwindled down to four teams. We expect Farm- ersville's 2017 team to follow in the footsteps of 2016 and win the ESL but have a sub .500 record; keeping in mind, of course, that this might be their last league title for a while unless they drasti- cally improve in 2018 when they will join the East Sequoia League.
