While his new coach may say that early on there are no starters, stevenson is a seasoned passer with capabilities that coaches would love to foster in their quarterbacks. runninG baCK anD wiDe reCeiver senior wide receiver henry hagen has given Johnson something to look forward to saying that, at this level, he could be a desean Jackson in his up-tempo offensive scheme. standing at 6 feet and 160 pounds last year, hagen has only packed on muscle this year, showing up to lift early and staying late after everyone else has left the gym. But one unknown is who will fill in for noe garcia. Johnson said that he has a stable of backs in victor Barajas and Josh Benevides who can blow up the middle, but running back Marcos Mendez is quick to get outside the tackles. oFFenSive line Johnson said that his sizable offensive line has been working on their technique and footwork all summer long. "We are pretty excited, we have three, possibly four, returning starters from last year." What sets them apart is that they pay attention to detail. linebaCKer standing at 5 feet, 11 inches and 185 pounds, junior edward Munoz was all over the field in 2016 and has started to show flashes of lead- ership at middle linebacker in 2017. the tiger's new coach says that he is excited to have him out based on what he's shown on film and his willingness to make tough tackles. "he just has those intangibles that you just can't teach," Johnson said. CornerbaCK anD SaFeTy Coach Johnson is cobbling together an unproven group of cornerbacks and safeties that may prove to be a weak link on the defensive side of the ball. For certain, hagen will be playing up top and Marcos Mendez will make tackles at corner when he's not toting the rock on offense. But sophomore Chase Wallace is still a young player pulled up from junior varsity and will be getting his first taste of varsity action on game day this year. if other teams key into the tigers' secondary's lack of experience, Woodlake might be playing from behind if the offense doesn't score at will. DeFenSive line By his own admission, Johnson knows that his defensive line will be small, but he hopes to keep it ferocious with a seasoned veteran, senior david Coa, leading the position group at defensive end.
