"Both quarterbacks had a good summer, and both still have a lot of growing to do," said coach dan Williams. Sophomore lalo alcantar will see some time at quarterback as well. runninG baCk anD wiDe reCeiver two of the grizzlies best weapons didn't make it onto the field at Jacob rankin Stadium last year. Wide receiver Kenny Xayachack (pronounced zˉı-ch ˘ ak) missed all but two games due to ineligibility and running back Jasper Berumen was on the sidelines for tulare Western. coach Williams said Berumen has 4.6 speed and the ability to rush for 1,000 yards, while Xayachack is an excellent route runner who can get separation and make people miss. last year's leading receiver, Jordan Florez, should improve on his 298 yards and 3 touchdowns from a year ago. oFFenSive line the grizzlies are not returning any starters from last year's O-line, but it will be anchored by gigantic tackle Jacob Facio (6'5", 330 lbs.) and guard Juan tapia (5'11", 310 lbs.). linebaCker alejandro linares (featured on the 2017 Football preview cover) led the team with 84 tackles and added 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble and fumble recovery. although, he may not be the team's best linebacker this year. coach Williams has moved daniel Orozco from defensive end to outside linebacker to better take advantage of his range and playmaking ability. Orozco had 4 sacks and 45 tackles on the defensive line and could find his way into the backfield more often from his new position. CornerbaCk anD SaFeTy the grizzlies return three of their four starters from last year's squad. Free safety Seth luna led the team with 7 passes defended and was second in tackles with 64. cornerback Jordan Florez led the team with 5 interceptions and cornerback alex gil recorded 59 tackles. this unit is the strength of the defense and should keep opponents from picking up yards in chunks. DeFenSive line the left side of the defensive line is set with seniors Brannon moore and daniel tapia, who had 2 sacks and 13 tackles. With Orozco moving to outside linebacker, the right side of the d-line is somewhat uncertain.
