Tulare CounTy FooTball Preview 35 Porterville Panthers 2016 review 2016's Panthers could not catch a break last year. After defeating West High School from Bakersfield, 35-6 in week one, they went on a seven game losing streak until they defeated Delano by a seven point margin on the road. But their second and last win in the Carl Scudder era was nothing more than a moral victory as they ranked dead last in the East Yosemite League behind Monache who shared the same 1-4 league record but managed to score 111 points in their five gave league slate. Key loSSeS One presence the Panthers will miss in 2017 is their running back Robert Jimenez. On 99 carries Jimenez rushed for 506 yards and three touchdowns. Another Porterville Panther that graduated on that would have been nice for new coach Michael Machado to have is inside linebacker Ryan Jones. As a captain on 2016's defensive unit Jones played in 9 games and managed 22 solo tackles out of his 56 total tackles. 2017 Preview Judging by last year's record fans wouldn't think they have much to look forward to, except a hard effort. But 2017's Panther's have a lot of seniors and with them a lot of experience. That is something that Coach Machado hopes to benefit from especially in a season where he plays three out of five of his East Yosemite League games at home, but within those league games are back-to-back bruising teams in Tulare Western and Tulare Union. If the Panthers can withstand those top notch teams and maybe win one out of two, Porterville could make a decent splash in league standings. PrediCTion Seven out of 18 Tulare County teams changed head coaches in 2017, and Porterville being one of them with a senior heavy roster while changing the offensive philosophy does not bode well for a team that goes up against the likes of Tulare Union and Tulare Western. But after their first five games they may be able to defeat Mission Oak, Delano and Monache but we don't expect them to be any more than middle of the pack in EYL standings this year.
