Tulare CounTy FooTball Preview 27 Mission Oak Hawks 2016 review The Mission Oak Hawks were almost a playoff team in 2016 be- fore a 22-15 overtime loss to the Delano Tigers ended their sea- son at 3-7. Injuries, position changes and a difficult non-league stretch also played a part. In 2016 the Hawks lost defensive end Seth Logan to a hand injury late in season, and then lost running back Bobby Mascorro against Tulare Western. Still, head coach David Flores' team ended their year on a high note with a 9-0 win over Porterville and 24-21 overtime win over Monache. Key loSSeS The biggest loss for the Hawks is John Bridges out at wide re- ceiver. Described as their possession receiver, Bridges caught 32 passes for 406 yards and three touchdowns. The chemistry that he and his younger brother Matt Bridges had on the field provided the team with a valuable cohesiveness. They will also lose the services of Jose Palomera at tail back. Palomera rushed for 826 yards and four touchdowns. 2017 Preview The goal each year for the Hawks is to be playing beyond their regular season. And this year they are more prepared with a lot of juniors entering this year having game time experience, including Matt Bridges at quarterback. They will also be returning three starting offensive linemen and have a talented group at running back. Their non-league is still one of the most difficult with three teams that have made the post-season last year. And they end their season with two tough opponents in 2016 EYL runner up Tulare Western and 2016 EYL champs Tulare Union. How they fare in those two games may determine whether they play an eleventh game in 2017. PrediCTion With so much firepower returning for Tulare Union and Tulare West- ern, the top two spots in the East Yosemite League seem locked up. If the Hawks come out of their non-league schedule above .500 and avoid an upset in league, a third-place finish in the EYL and a post-season appearance is not outside the realm of possibility.
