Tulare CounTy FooTball Preview 15 Golden West Trailblazers 2016 review Time heals all wounds, but there will still be scars, especially after last year's Division V semifinals loss to Chowchilla. After having gone 9-1 in the regular season and winning a share of the West Yosemite League title, the Trailblazers were on a roll and destined for the D-V Valley Championship. But a last-second plunge into the end zone by Chowchilla ripped the Trailblazers' Valley hopes from their grasp. Key loSSeS The Trailblazers will be without the services of one of their fea- tured linemen. Eli Luna was a massive 6-foot, 275-pound force on both the offensive and defensive line. Finding someone to fill those massive shoes will be difficult. Another loss from 2016 is the athletic Ryan Cook. In all-purpose yards, Cook amassed 1,363 in his senior year alone, and put 4 touchdowns up on the board as well. 2017 Preview Head coach Paul Preheim says that last year's last-second defeat has made his returners hungrier than ever. And without having lost many players, the Blazers are poised to capitalize on their ex- perience and strength. Preheim touted his team's brawn as they have spent a lot of time in their new and improved weight room. The Blazer's biggest advantage, though, is in their slate of WYL home games. Golden West will be playing at Groppetti Stadium the final five weeks of the season. PrediCTion It is fair to say that Golden West lost a key starter on the of- fensive and defensive line in Eli Luna. And they lost some senior leadership with the graduation of Bryson Johnson, but the Blazers have retained much of the 2016 talent that brought them within a single play of going to the Valley Championship. We expect Golden West to go beyond a second straight WYL title and, barring any key injuries to players like Gonzalo Rodriguez or Ian Kelly, the Blazers could find themselves back in the Division IV semifinals with a second chance at heading to Valley.
