Either choose a specific date or narrow it down to a month or season in order to be f lexible with venues' availability. r Begin wedding dress shopping. r Learn the marriage license requirements for where you are getting married. r By 12 months prior to the wedding, decide on and book venue. r Hire a photographer and videographer, if desired. r Choose and book your ceremony location and officiant. r Choose your wedding party and begin looking for wedding party attire. r Begin planning and designing save-the-dates and invitations. r Research and interview DJs or bands for ceremony music and reception. r Finalize your guest list with your families. r Choose a f lorist. r Research and determine hotel accommodation options for guests. r Address and mail save-the-dates. r Hire hair and makeup professionals and schedule appointments for the bride and wedding party. r Complete your wedding gift registry. r Order invitations after necessary logistics are determined. r Order any rentals you may need for the wedding day such as tables, chairs or linens. 2 WEEKS-1 MONTH PRIOR 3-6 MONTHS PRIOR 1-3 MONTHS PRIOR r Finalize all wedding attire for bride, groom, bridesmaids, and groomsmen. r Start planning your rehearsal dinner. r Order your wedding cake or desserts. r Finalize f lowers for the ceremony as well as the reception. r Announce engagement in local papers. r Finalize plans with your ceremony officiant. r Begin looking for attendee gifts. r Purchase wedding rings. r Finalize and confirm reservations and appointments for all events and locations for the wedding day. r Address and mail invitations to guests. (This is typically done 2-3 months prior to the wedding date.) r Finalize details for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, including a guest list of those not in the bridal party. r Communicate the details and itinerary to all family, wedding party members and any additional guest included in the rehearsal. r Purchase attendant gifts and guest favors. r Finalize and confirm timeline and details with all vendors. r Organize RSVPs, create a seating chart for the reception, and design and print place cards. r Finalize guest count and communicate it to your caterer, venue and f lorist (if applicable). r At 1 month prior to the wedding, apply for and get your marriage license. r Purchase thank you notes for gifts. r Confirm your honeymoon plans and travel arrangements. Using the timeline below as a guide throughout the planning process will help keep your wedding day arrangements on track and help boost your enjoyment of the planning process every step of the way. 6-9 MONTHS PRIOR 12-18 MONTHS PRIOR 9-12 MONTHS PRIOR
