Josh Zepnick, D-Milwaukee, says he's staying on the job, despite being stripped of his committee assign- ments. "I have already issued a public apology and I have made clear that I am not resigning from my position," the South Side repre- sentative said in a news release this week. "Last time I checked, there is still a US Constitution that provides something called 'due process' where I have the right to defend myself." After several sexual allega- tions involving elected officials and high-profile media figures, including Matt Lauer and Charlie Rose, came to light, the Capital Times reported two women alleged that Z e p n i c k kissed them. One woman said that Z e p n i c k grabbed her shoulders and kissed her at a 2011 election party for a recall candi- date and the other woman said Zepnick kissed her at the 2015 Democratic state convention. The women requested anonymity over concern about their jobs. Zepnick, who in 2015 admitted to drunken driving, issued an apology statement last week: "As a recovering alcoholic, I have confronted and apologized for many mistakes I made during my years of irresponsible drink- ing. "While I have no recollection of these alleged incidents, there is never an excuse for inappropriate behavior. "I take the claims seriously and respect the feelings of the women involved. I apologize to both women for my actions and for any distress that I may have caused."
