Photo of the Year finalists
Division 1
First
Karen Branham
The Times-Post (Pendleton)
Homecoming
Although there were fewer pictures in this grouping, each one
had plenty of emotion or interest for the viewer.
Division 2
Josh Lewis
The Salem Leader
Rumblin, Bumblin, Stumblin
This is a well-composed shot with the action coming straight
at the viewer. The looks of anguish on the faces of the defend-
ers (not to mention the defenders who faces are buried in the
grass) and the high-stepping action by the runner tells the story
of who won this play.
Division 3
Chris Schanz
The Commercial Review (Portland)
Rodeo reach
If a picture is worth a thousand words, this picture is a novel.
Great composition tells the story of the intensity of the mo-
ment. Good lighting and a fast shutter stops the action on a
dime.
Division 4
Jeff Morehead
Chronicle-Tribune (Marion)
Jump
Excellent composition. Great moment as the boy launches,
looking as though he is flying.
Division 5
First
Kelly Lafferty Gerber
Kokomo Tribune
Happy tears
Great timing to get this.
Division 6
Robert Franklin
South Bend Tribune
Church fire
Photo show tremendous emotion and really gives a sense of
a firefighter almost to the point of being overwhelmed with
exhaustion.
