Editor's Note |By Adrienne Wise November is a time to be thankful
In addition to digging into that pile of leftover Halloween candy and turkey with all the fixins, November is a time for giv- ing thanks. Here are a few things I'm grateful for:
I'm thankful for living in a country that gives us an opportunity to vote in a presidential election, as well as other local, state and national races.
hopefully making you think and smile. This includes Emily Popek's Laygirl Fashion column on Page 5.
Get columnist Kevin Eggleston's thoughtful take on the election on Page 16. I'm thankful for living in an area that's teem- ing with entertainment options, like the ones I love to bring to you each month. We profile three up-and-coming Oneonta venues on pages 12 and 13: Jimmy T's, the B Side Ballroom & Supper Club and the Red Jug Pub.
She's been my key collaborator for this magazine since I became editor, and I'm thankful for her input and ideas. Most of all, I'm thankful for my family and friends. Whether near or far, the people in my life bring me hope, joy and a sense of belonging and purpose.
Along with this, I'm happy for the wealth of artistic talent we have here, young and old. This includes recent Hartwick College gradu- ate Crystal Postighone, who breathes beauty into hand-blown glass lampshades, vases, jewelry and more.
Read about her and see her work on pages 6 and 7. Also find out about other area art happenings on Page 18.
I'm thankful for having the opportunity to produce this publication each month, sharing with you interesting and intriguing viewpoints, exciting events and people in our area, and
On good days, they make me feel even better. On bad days, they lift me up and encourage me to see the many blessings in my life. And on those in-between days, they make me giggle with their silly Facebook posts, sarcasm and obscure pop-culture references that only we understand.
I hope you have as much to give thanks for as I do.
And please continue sending us your events and story ideas at arts@ thedailystar.com.
